October 19th & 20th: Special Olympics Healthy Athletes screening:

Participants will provide free dental screenings through the Special Smiles program at Special Olympics for the Fall Classic 2018 athletes. Along with the screenings, the dental professionals will provide helpful information to keep them healthy and competing at their very best. Wellness Park will be open on Friday, October 19th from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm and Saturday, October 20th from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.

November 3rd: Veterans smile daY

Mosaic and the Greater Houston Dental Society is excited to partner with Welch Dental Group and local organizations to host our fourth Veterans Smile Day "Helping Serve Those Who Have Served." This is a community outreach event for local veterans to receive free dental services, including exams, x-rays, cleanings, fillings and extractions.

More Volunteer Dentists are needed on November 3rd! Please be part of a rewarding opportunity to impact local veterans in a special way through your time and talents as a volunteer. PLEASE NOTE: Two (2) shifts are available to ensure that all veterans scheduled throughout the event have the opportunity to receive treatment.

Past Projects & Trips

Loaves & Fishes - Houston, TX

Clients of Loaves & Fishes as well as combat veterans of Camp Hope came from dire living circumstances. At this event students from The University of Texas School of Dentistry distributed kits (toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss), provided hygiene instructions, offered oral screenings and visited with the residents. 

Special Olympics, Healthy Athetes - May 12, 2018

Volunteers will participate in the dental screening event, "Special Smiles" at the Special Olympics in Houston, TX. There are 480 people signed up for the events and we expect 100 athletes to come through the screening area. We will not be providing a diagnosis, but informing people if they need to seek care and giving OHI.  

Loaves and Fishes - Saturday, June 9th

Participants will distribute kits (toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss), provide hygiene instructions, offer oral screenings and visit with the residents.

Ronald McDonald House: Saturday, July 7th

Participants will provide an activity for the children, play games and bring coloring books to share with children in residence at the Ronald McDonald House. There is a 12 dental student limit with a need for 3 UTSD faculty dentists, so please sign up soon. 

Guangzhou China - July / August 2018

 The purpose of this dental exchange trip is to observe different models of oral health care delivery, education and assist the United Family Health Hospital in Guangzhou China. Opportunities will be available to visit a dental school and interact with health staff at the hospital and students. UTSD Faculty will present at the dental school and pursue research collaboration. Additional tourism options include Hong Kong, Guangzhou Shopping, Beijing Imperial City and Great Wall before and after the United Family Hospital visit. The Central Business District of Guangzhou is called Zhujiang New Town.
